 Welcome To Pregnancy Massage...

Pregnancy Massage:

At our office in Hollywood, Florida we also welcome, pregnant clients.  The mother is massaged on a side line position, for her comfort.  With pregnancy most women experience back pain, tight neck muscles and shoulder along with swollen feet

Massage therapy is sometimes thought of as "something I do on vacation," a luxury relegated to special occasions and spa visits. As a certified Pregnancy Massage Therapist, I prefer to think of it as complementary, healthcare. The medical establishment is starting to catch up, and more and more OBs and midwives are recommending massage therapy for their patients. A pregnant woman goes through enormous physical and emotional changes. A Pregnancy Massage Therapist can provide the help you need to get through your pregnancy, labor and postpartum recovery, to motherhood This is one "prescription" that is easy to take.

Receiving regular massage and bodywork helps relieve pregnancy's unique aches and pains caused by extra weight, changing structural alignment, and hormones--not to mention the demands of work, home and family, Taking the time to relax and release held tension ensures more energy and a greater sense of well-being throughout your pregnancy.

Massage therapy improves circulation--which means better nutrition for you and the baby, as well as decreased swelling and varicose veins. Regular massage improves posture, muscle tone and flexibility, training your body for labor. As you learn to recognize and release tight muscles, you will feel better prepared for the demands of active birthing. Studies have shown that regular massage in pregnancy contributes to shorter, less painful labor and can reduce labor complications, medication, and interventions.

Massage acts as an overall tonic just when there are no specific aches or pains. The advantage of this treatment is that it helps you become aware of your body and changes it's going through and this way better help you prepare for the labor. Once the nervous system is sedated, massage helps the release of endorphins, leading to a state of relaxation, which affects your baby in the uterus. If you focus on your body a positive way, it makes you realize that you're not the "fat and ugly" person otherwise you would think.

By increasing both blood and lymph circulation, it brings more nutrition to all parts of your body, including the placenta, and helps in the removal of waste products. If for some reason your pregnancy limits your ability to move around, massage can be an alternative to stimulate circulation, muscles stretching, and helping to keep your joints flexible.

In other parts of the world, post-pregnancy massage is a must.  Massage after the child labor can help reduce the fatigue and tension produce by the delivery of the child.  Muscles strengthen and prevents weakness due to inactivity, specially if the mother was confined during the pregnancy. Another reason why massage is important after birth is that it nurtures the mother who may feel the challenge of caring for her baby.

How does the massage work if you can't be on your belly? Pregnancy massage is done in the side-lying position. Using specialized cushions or pillows, your massage therapist will work on one side of your body and then the other. This position is most comfortable and sale, and allows easy access to the hips, legs, back and arms.

Health Tip: Prevent Headaches During Pregnancy
Suggestions to ward off the pain

(HealthDay News) -- Headaches among pregnant women are a common complaint, but in many cases they can be prevented, the American Pregnancy Association says.

The association offers these suggestions:

  • Make sure you're getting enough sleep, and take some time to relax.
  • Eat regular, healthy meals and snacks. Low blood sugar can lead to headaches.
  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Get regular exercise.
  • Rid your life of as much stress as possible, which can help prevent tension headaches.
  • Pay attention to posture.
  • Watch your caffeine intake. But don't stop all caffeine suddenly -- which in itself can cause withdrawal-related headaches.

Postpartum Massage Can Help Speed Emotional Healing

It is not at all unusual for most new mothers to experience mood disorders after the birth of their child. The dramatic shift in hormones, the labor and birth, and general fatigue all contribute to fleeting feelings of sadness. As many as two-thirds of new mothers worldwide experience postpartum blues, also known as "baby blues." The onset generally occurs at about day three and the duration of these transient feelings of sadness is about a week or two. The blues are characterized by weeping, insomnia, fatigue, moodiness, and anxiety but is self-limiting. With some rest, support, sunshine, and compassion, these feelings recede without lasting effects. Since the blues are short-lived, a nurturing massage can be profoundly relaxing and help speed up the emotional healing.

Severe emotional symptoms after giving birth such as feelings of guilt, hopelessness, helplessness, social withdrawal or suicidal thoughts may be an indicator of postpartum depression and you should talk to your doctor immediately. Tell Me About Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is fundamentally a preventative, corrective and rehabilitative process of natural, drug-free health care. It is a hands-on process, quite literally, to manipulate and physically aid the body's muscles and soft tissue in recovery. With the skill and experience of registered massage therapists, your specific injury, dysfunction, or stress-related condition are positively affected by massage therapy.

What Happens During A Massage Treatment?

During a treatment, your massage therapist will use stretching, therapeutic techniques, and massage therapy while working with you to achieve balance and improve your life. A healthy lifestyle is also encouraged.

Massage therapists assess and correct many imbalances and dysfunctions within the body's soft tissues where injuries, stress, and other ailments are stored. Each individual has unique needs, and each treatment will be somewhat different based on each body's response to treatment, however, the process remains the same.

Massage therapy promotes overall well-being, including that associated with loss or emotional stress.
